As far as we know, Southwestern Seminary’s erstwhile First Lady will continue as hostess for the fourth annual “Tea @ Three” event at this year’s annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention. We originally assumed that the First Lady Emerita would step aside, perhaps allowing one of her proteges to emcee the event. But they will both be fully engaged Monday afternoon as the two female members of this year’s Resolutions Committee.
We are reliably informed, however, that Southwestern has cancelled events scheduled on the seminary campus for Wednesday evening during the convention. (Click here for a PDF)
‘Tis a pity, really. We were so looking forward to the SWBTS Outdoor/Indoor Luxury Barbecue with Finger Buffet.
Weren’t you?
I strongly suspect that allowing the scheduled tours of the new Baptist Heritage Center, which includes the 1,000 sq ft. residence for the Patterson’s, was going to be very embarrassing. I’ve only seen the building from the outside, but over-sized 2 car garages are not the norm for such modest sized living quarters. Spanish tile roofs? “Pastor Del Hacienda” inscription? What other extravagances were going to be made known when the public got to see the bigger picture? There is a definite cognitive dissonance between the way the residence is described and the life style the Patterson’s are known to enjoy.
Actually, the living area is closer to 3000sf with 10 to 12 foot high ceilings. The whole building is roughly 15,000sf. It is tied into the seminary’s utilities infrastructure.
That comes to 167 per sq. ft with land already provided!! The residential portion then is worth 500,000. I wonder who ever thought the libraries of those folks needed to be archived. The collections themselves can’t be worth 2 million!!
BTW: When I see the “Pastor Del Hacienda” inscription I hear “The Master of the House” from Les Miz.
PP and his wife IMO “have no sense of decency.” PP instead of being the Savior of those that supported the CR has utterly disgraced the SBC IMO.
I love “Keeping up Appearances”. LOL. So true in so many ways.
