Dottie P. is busy measuring the drapes in the Baptist Heritage Center today and won’t be able to make our regular tea time. So she’s asked Dr. Barry McCarty, SBC convention parliamentarian and Southwestern seminary professor of preaching to host today’s episode of “Tea Talks.” His special guest today will be the Ambassador-at-Large for the SBC Executive Committee, Former SBC President Jimmy Draper, whose son, Bailey, incidentally, is the general contractor building the $2 million Patterson retirement home on Southwestern’s campus.
Get a cup of tea and let’s listen in while these two convention leaders dish it.
Would it ever cross their minds that BC and WB just want what is right to be done? Bitter? Angry? Not at all. Just want the right thing done by all. Why do they always have to label those who don’t “fall in line” with this type of criticism. Maybe some want justice? Oh wait can’t use that word can I ?
I’ve never found Wade or Ben’s blogs to be filled with “bitter” or “angry” overtones. I truly hear their concerns for justice & transparency in their efforts to expose what really is happening with Patterson & Pressler for that matter. While a student at SWBTS, a friend of mine named Dusty told me flat out Dr. Thomas White told him to spy on Ben Cole & watch his every move. True story.
Hmmm. Pretty sure BC never went to SWBTS…
Ben?…
BC’s own words from his blog: “Later, when I arrived at Southwestern Seminary, I was informed that Patterson had sent a directive to the Public Relations office that “no coverage” would be given in the alumni news to Joel Gregory.”
My wife and I had a good laugh when we heard Jimmy D and Barry M. :) The French aristocracy of the 18th century considered the Parisians angry, but in reality, the Royal Court had lost touch with the commoners.. I made a vow over a decade to never forget the wounded comoners of the SBC, those without a voice. What appears as anger (in Jimmy’s words, “violently angry”) is a blog that allows common Southern Baptists to peer into Royal Court of the SBC . They’re the ones rolling in the guilliatine, not I. As to what motivates me, I’m sening both Barry and Jimmy a copy of Hardball Religion. I re-read it the other day, and was reminded how important the principles articulated in that book remain today.

If Barry McCarty has ever been “neutral” in his monopoly of SBC parliamentary procedure, then I have always been the queen of France.
