What Missouri Baptists need most…
…is the sensibility and resolve of a plain spoken man from Missouri, President Harry S. Truman.
Or if you’ll permit me a little license to contextualize President Truman’s remarks:
“We know that the greatest threat to us does not come from the bloggers in this convention, where they are a noisy, but a small and universally despised group. The greatest threat to Southern Baptist life comes from confessional eccentricity, ecclesiological narcissism, and missiological indifference. Now, I’m gonna tell you how we’re not going to fight these things. We’re not going to transform our fine convention agencies into a gestapo secret police. That’s what some people would like to do. We’re not going to try to control what our people read and say and think. We’re not going to turn the Southern Baptist Convention into a right wing totalitarian denomination in order to deal with a left wing theological threat.”
